Is there any financial help?

My grandfather needs dialysis three times. When he had first discovered that he had to get dialysis, we had to see what the cost would be to our family. It turns out that we not can not financially supportt him and medicare only covers so much. Is there any organizations to help him or us. please email me at moeblaze09@yahoo.com

thank you,

Every dialysis clinic in the U.S. has a social worker who should know about sources of financial help in that area. Patients with limited income and assets may be eligible for state medical assistance (Medicaid) to pay the 20% that Medicare doesn’t pay for dialysis. If he doesn’t meet the state guidelines for Medicaid and he just found out that he needs dialysis, he may be able to buy a Medigap plan to pay the 20%. The state insurance department in his state can tell him whether this is an option. If he has Medicare and needs help paying for drugs, he may get a Medicare Part D plan. If he has limited income and assets, he can apply for Part D “extra help” through Social Security and only have to pay a small co-pay for drugs. If there’s a state kidney program where he lives, that can help pay some expenses. State kidney programs may help with costs of dialysis care, drugs, transportation, etc. Some dialysis clinics have patients fill out financial forms and work with them on a fee they can afford.
