Nxstage and thirst

The gentleman on NxStage we know said he is much less thirsty on SDD NxStage txs and finds that although he is free to drink a little more, he is drinking less then he did on in-center txs. Does anyone on NxStage find that their thirst was affected like this at first? He said it is kind of strange not to be thirsty and wonders if there is an adjustment period when switching to SDD with NxStage. Did anyone experience this?

Probably it is the higher sodium of his in-center txs that made him more thristy. But he said it can also be a probem to not have enough thirst, since what good is it if one can drink more, but doesn’t feel thirsty?

Patients, especially long term patients…those who have been in-center for 5+ years and then go to daily-short will encounter some assimilation problems…the adjustment will take time…in-center they were trained to be strict on their diets and fluid intake and now once coming home doing daily-short that same habit still sticks to them…they will need to re-train themselves to eat a little more liberal and to drink a little more…

However, one the common problems that most home patients will encounter is hypotension…they’d come from in-center with hypertension and then after sometime beeing on daily-short or Nocturnal they’d experience hypotension after serveral months…there’s several reasons for this but most commonly is what the patient consumes…less salt? less water? Adjustment is quite critical on the overall wellbeeing of the home patient…
