Is it safe to do shift work ( 4 days, 4 off , 4 nights) when you are on APD dialysis 9 hours every night?
Does changing dialysis timing every 4th day ( days to night vice versa ) reduce the effectiveness of the treatment.
Ask your PD nurse before doing it on your own.
You might also consider doing manual exchanges. Although they are usually done at breakfast, lunch, dinner and bedtime, there is flexibility in when you do exchanges. I have known patients who did manual PD exchanges at work using a locking restroom or even in a vehicle with windows up, heat/AC turned off, after using alcohol-based hand gel and using sterile technique. Talk with your doctor or nurse about this option.
