# PD fluid any thing new

Hello I’ve been on the PD machine for a year now and have always been curious weather there has been any advances on the dialysis fluid we are using because what I’ve noticed this is quite an old procedure

Standard PD dialysate is dextrose-based. There’s a glucose polymer solution called icodextrin (Extraneal) that some patients in the U.S. use, but more people in other countries use it. Here’s an article that describes the different PD solutions.
