I think this is an update of the Redy system. It will be interesting if part of their business model includes making their machine available for holiday use by people using other machines in the home - Redy did this in the late 70s and through the 80s.
My understanding of how the machine’s dialysate use would work (they were at one of the Annual Dialsyis Conferences as an exhibitor) is that the six liters would be continualy reprossesed during the run allowing a normal dialysate flow rate without water treatment. A normal dialysate flow rate would imply equivalent clearances to a ‘standard’ machine, without stand alone water processing. The “near ultra pure” water quality needs some explaining and there is still the inflamation impact of disposable dialyzers and blood lines but it is great to see more options each year. It will be interesting to hear what their business model is and what will be required of providers to offer their system for daily dialysis in a three times a week reimbursement environment.
In the late 70s Mike Matson used a Redy machine during a five day raft trip down the Snake River. They had a generator and jugs of water and he ran twice in as remote an area as one could imagine. It would be exciting to have that option again.
