My father is home hemo; I am his full time care partner. My dad began dialyzing the final 2 weeks of December 2014 which initiated as treatment via catheter for a period of time until his new fistula became ready for use. He then went on to in-center hemo, later going home to do manual exchanges and then to PD. After double heart valve replacement surgery in January of 2020, he returned to in-center hemo until the end of January of this year (21) at which point we trained for a few weeks for home hemo. Now, six months later, he is doing well, never removing more than 3L in one session, treating 5 days per week and on a system that is much gentler on his heart. All in all, home hemo has been an effective method of treatment to achieve his goals.
