In the meantime let me give a brief introduction of myself… I started CCPD in 1997 when I was 23 years old. Got a transplant in 1999 – never worked… But they gave me all the anti rejection medication for 3 months until they removed the kidney. That resulted in both my hip replacements in 2001.
Oh wow, hip replacements hurt…I had my right-side replaced as well…
Sametime – got severe infection of the peritoneum…so started in center hemo dialysis. I never imagined home hemo existed…noone at Fresenius informed me.
Most clinics won’t tell patients about it…they won’t refer you…in their best interest they don’t want to lose a patient. However, smart educated patients like yourself are the lucky ones to make choices
Three weeks back I stumbled upon this Forum and I was very excited with the NxStage Sytem. Thanks to all of the members stories and input.
So I called NxStage and they directed me to Davita near my home. Next day I went to Davita, and they said they can train me from July 1st week.
Oh wow, congrats bunches on that. Your training should not take very long…it took 17 days or me…some people it takes 14 days…
I immediately transferred to their clinic for in center hemo too since I wanted to get used to everyone and vice versa. I can cannulate myself and know lot about setting up the machine etc, and since I was on the cycler a long time, the doc feels I will be trained pretty soon.
Wow, you already cannulate yourself and its gonna be a breeze transitioning to home, will be smooth. Btw, are you already using buttonhole cannulation?
I was concerned if I could take a short trip by the end of July, doctor said it should be ok. I have not been to my birth country India from 1997, so if Nxstage works out well, I may plan that big trip next year or so…
You mean take NxStage to India?
BTW, I read Headbandgrrl’s post… I was wondering if anyone else had any other inputs.
Am sure there are other patients who have traveled but maybe they don’t know about this website…
Thanks for the prompt reply. I saw your website and the pics!
Regards,
Pavani
