Airline travel with NxStage

Hi all! I am new to this site… Thanks to this website, I learnt about NxStage and am starting my home dialysis on it soon. I am planning a trip to Canada end of July for four days. I am planning to take my supplies with me on the plane. Has anyone experienced any concerns/problems while travelling with the NxStage? Any airline issues? Customs issues? Your replies are greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Pavani

Wow, great to hear your starting home dialysis soon! Are you currently training?

I’ve traveled by car for a weekend away from home, but not yet with airline travel…

Did you read Headbandgrrl’s post? She’s also planning an airline travel soon… http://www.homedialysis.org/boards/viewtopic.php?t=1210

Hi, Gus! Thanks for the prompt reply. I am awaiting for my account to be activated on this site!

In the meantime let me give a brief introduction of myself… I started CCPD in 1997 when I was 23 years old. Got a transplant in 1999 – never worked… But they gave me all the anti rejection medication for 3 months until they removed the kidney. That resulted in both my hip replacements in 2001. Sametime – got severe infection of the peritoneum…so started in center hemo dialysis. I never imagined home hemo existed…noone at Fresenius informed me. Three weeks back I stumbled upon this Forum and I was very excited with the NxStage Sytem. Thanks to all of the members stories and input.
So I called NxStage and they directed me to Davita near my home. Next day I went to Davita, and they said they can train me from July 1st week. I immediately transferred to their clinic for in center hemo too since I wanted to get used to everyone and vice versa. I can cannulate myself and know lot about setting up the machine etc, and since I was on the cycler a long time, the doc feels I will be trained pretty soon. I was concerned if I could take a short trip by the end of July, doctor said it should be ok. I have not been to my birth country India from 1997, so if Nxstage works out well, I may plan that big trip next year or so…
BTW, I read Headbandgrrl’s post… I was wondering if anyone else had any other inputs.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I saw your website and the pics!
