If You Have Serious Leg Cramps and The Staff Will Not Stop Removing Fluid

I think since it seems we can not get these people to behave, we should start filing criminal charges with the local prosecutors. For example, if they keep pulling fluid off of you and you have asked them to stop, and your legs are screaming in pain… Explain to these clowns that if they do not stop, they will be charged with assault or sued in civil court. You have a right to direct your care. Most attorneys will write nasty letters for a small fee.

If they continue or try to intimidate, call your local television station, they do stories like this type, all of the time. How do you think that is going to look on television to the rest of the population? Yes, this Ohio code does apply to health care workers, what a shame.

Rather than threatening to bring charges against the dialysis clinic, it might help to consider possible causes of the cramps. Dialysis staff are required follow a physician’s orders. Cramps can occur because the dry weight listed in the physician’s orders is too low. This could happen if you have gained “good” weight because your appetite has improved or GI problems have resolved. If you think that’s the case, talk with your doctor, describe how you’re eating, how much you typically gain between treatments when you get the cramps, where and how severe the cramps are, how long the cramps last, how long it takes to get over them, and what can help you get over them. Be sure that you’re not gaining more than than is safe to be removed during a dialysis treatment. Removing fluid too fast not only can cause cramps but can cause heart problems. Dialysis surveyors are starting to look at how much and how fast fluid is removed during an HD treatment.

Beth, my point, is that if anyone else was doing this, they would be jailed for assault. Many in dialysis act like they are tone deaf.
