Is DaVita Insane? Part II

Yes, believe it or not, we do have another control freak situation. The Clinic Manager who in recent months, has turned into a Psycho control freak, decided to call me and blame me for the actions of others.

This individual was extremely angry that I would not pay $3.50 per gallon in gas to come to fistula training, which is 45 minutes each way from my house. In other words, it is like a 1 1/2 hour trip from Cincinnati to Columbus(Think Ohio State), three times a week. She failed to mention that the fistula is not developing and we have been at this for over a month. I explained to her in a reasonable fashion that I could not afford to pay $3.50 per gallon to drive those excessive distances and I would not pay it, currently, cannot afford it. She told me that gas prices will not change(This Economist says Bull). I stated to her that in the short term range they will increase and in the long term, they will decrease, because the prices are unsustainable. We agreed to disagree.

In addition, she was mad because I had not gone to the Access Center for my fistula to be looked at, well… She fails to mention that her Social Worker has been in meetings all week and I need her to meet with me and the supplemental insurance agent to start the Supplemental insurance policy, we should be able to meet late this week.

This woman also went nuts over flowsheets, yet, forgetting that her clinic gave me two fax machines in row that do not work. Why should I pay for stamps when you are unwilling to do your job correctly? Are you really that stupid that you cannot give me a fax machine that works?

UNREAL

I deleted your gasoline post as not relevant enough to home dialysis–too peripheral. I’m confused about a couple of things in your above post, though.
1). How are you being blamed for the actions of others. What others? The social worker?
2). What is “fistula training”? Self-cannulation? What access have you been using up until now? If it is fistula training, why would you need it 3x/week? Don’t most people learn to put their needles in in a session or two? (If the staff is insisting on starting buttonholes for you, we view that as a bad idea–much better if you can start them yourself).

Not sure that giving someone a fax machine that doesn’t work has anything to do with intelligence.

I guess my point is that being in an adversarial relationship with your clinic is not likely to help you. Instead of looking for ways to point out how badly they treat you, some of that energy could be spent looking for solutions and compromises. What are your other options if they kick you out? I’m not sure they have grounds to do so–and it sounds like you have a great relationship with your doctor, so he won’t “fire” you–but this has happened to others, and I’d hate for it to happen to you.

This individual wanted to blame me for the actions of the social worker, of which, I have no control. In an area of this size, I will simply go to another home clinic. In addition, at this point, they do not have any legal justification to remove me, I will contact an attorney and a lawsuit will be filed. In addition, I will blast this situation all over the press. I dare them to try it, I have confronted larger groups than this and have won. DaVita lost for this type of behavior in North Carolina, try it again and see what happens, I will be on that phone to an attorney within hours. Solutions? There is one way, the DaVita way. This is what happens in the market place when there has been a lack of competition for years, it is called major arrogance. I just want my Expanded treatments and to be left alone. Now, you know how the government will treat people like us with no competition. This should be a health care facility, not a jail. I hate to tell you that individuals who are on parole in the criminal justice system are treated in a better fashion. I posted the Wall Street Journal article to show this woman has no clue of what she is babbling about, stick to Nursing, you are totally clueless about Economics.

What about fistula training?

Yes I want to know what fistula training is… I never heard of that…

Fistula training is self-cannulation. The reason that the Nursing staff is doing the sticks to start, is that we tried the sticking and the fistula is small. I have three years of experience sticking and the Nurse who is excellent was also having problems with sticking. The fistula will probably have to be blown up at the Access Center. In other words, the fistula is not developing well, like the first one.

Even so, it seems odd that you’d need that 3x/week–especially when you have experience already.

The fistula is just that small and is not developing well, so I will have to go to the Access Center to have it blown up.
