New Dialysis Technology and Machine-This is Far Out

I would LOVE to be able to travel to places not in the US and not covered by insurance as this would allow!

I bet it will be a while before this specific HD machine is available in the U.S. since I can’t find anything on the FDA website about the company or the machine. In the meantime, companies making home HD machines are working on making them smaller and more portable to meet patients’ needs/desire to travel with them.

If you want to travel to exotic destinations, Medicare covers dialysis in the U.S. and its territories, which includes Hawaii and other Pacific Islands (American Samoa, Guam, Saipan/Northern Mariana Islands) and Caribbean Islands (Puerto Rico and US Virgin Islands). Some patients have taken their PD cyclers and NxStage machines on cruises departing from U.S. ports. I believe those patients had supplies delivered to the U.S. port where they could be loaded on the ship.

Do not forget Dialysis at Sea. I called them and for a week of dialysis, three treatments, it is in the neighborhood of $1,725. Please keep in mind that they have to carry extensive medical liability insurance, plus pay the Nursing people, along with the on-board kidney specialist. Yes, if you are receiving home dialysis, you can run for 8 hours, every other day.

Thanks for posting this NDXUFan12! Nice to think a clinic could have less of a hold on people with something like this.
