Just been catching up with a few threads here, but thought I’d post my rather slow progress towards home haemo.
I’ve been back on haemo for over a year after suffering from meningitis listeria which knocked back a 3rds tranplant & nearly killed me.
Anyway, after a further 6 months at one of the worst dialysis units (Fresenius Camden in the UK slack as hell, I finally managed to chase my consultant up yet again.
After not calling me at home on wednesday, he called me on my mobile on dialysis yesterday (thursday) seems like he wants to come along with the tech to do the assesment for the installation. I think he’s as excited as I am as I’m his first home haemo patient (possibly good or bad, we’ll see) so it’s a learning curve for both of us.
No idea when the visit will be made, but it will hopefully be before Christmas, (again I’m rather sceptical about this, but’ it’ll be great if it happens!
Good news is I’m dialysing straight, gaining body weight & my figures are good as well! :
JW, I’m glad to hear that you’re so persistant! It seems to be paying off for you. I know all of us here wish you luck–and please do keep telling us about your progress. You’re giving people hope.
[My husband just started nocturnal. It is really catching on here in Canada. There are about 70 or more people doing nocturnal in Ontario . My husband is the third person trained in Newfoundland. There was a girl trained at the same time he was and there have been a couple of people trained since. He finds it really good. I usually do his needles but he is able to do them himself. The big fear is that govt will cut the funding eventhough in the long term it is cheaper. It is great to have a life back and have time to do the things you want to do. No matter how he felt or what the weather three times a week we had to drive over an hour each wayto the dialysis unit. We are saving lots of money not having to buty as much gas!!

Thanks for your posts.Much appreciated, sorry for the late reply.
Things have changed, no I haven’t had a transplant but I’m ‘considering’ the options, including newer techniques, & the transplant system.
This is all very much, “later” at the moment it’s just getting confident & getting the home haemo training sorted… more on that later:) Portable is yet to come here, but I’m thinking of an online petition:)
I’ll explain more about everything in a new post soon

I’m not on dialysis yet but circumstances beyond my control may elevate the use of dialysis. I’m here to learn about my options so I can make uniform sound desicions.
