Rn

I am an RN just learning dialysis, and it seems to me, after all these years, why are you still using metal straight needles instead of “angio” type needles with plastic blunt tips that remain in the vascular access after the needle is withdrawn? They are so much safer to patients, as they do not migrate and puncture the other side of the vein…

The FDA has not approved this. I do not know if it has been presented to them

I’m not certain the FDA would need to approve this use. I’m actually not sure the FDA even approves dialysis needles at all. It may just be tradition that we use metal needles. Not sure how to check, though. It’s an interesting idea.

Where you able to find anything in reference to using these needles? Ive ask around and have come up with nothing

aww… hoping we hear more about this!
