I recently had kidney stone surgery with complications this past month and have been reflecting while on recovery. I have been a dialysis technician for nearly 15 years. I’m seeking advice and resources for locating legit home dialysis employment/remote dialysis employment with benefits. In addition, I want to have a plan when I return to work. I want to have a solid position and allow my current employer to have adequate resignation notice without any hard feelings. Thank you for your service and support!
Dialysis clinics must CMS-certified to offer home dialysis training and support services. The dialysis regulations require the home training nurse to be an RN with 12 months experience working as an RN plus 3 months experience working as an RN in the type of dialysis s/he will be training patients to do. PCTs can do some things in a home dialysis program but what they can do may be limited by the state and the dialysis clinic. Have you considered going back to school to get your RN? That would give you to best chance to be a home training nurse. There are patients who aren’t able to do home dialysis, but might be able to do it if they had a PCT to perform their dialysis (HDor PD) for them. Medicare doesn’t pay for staff-assisted home dialysis, but some insurances may cover it, and some patients may be able to pay privately for someone to do their home dialysis for them. If you work at a clinic that offers home dialysis now, you might want to ask if staff-assisted dialysis might be on their radar.
Thank you Beth for your feedback. It’s a long process l see no opportunity at this time with my current company. In the meantime I will continue to search for new opportunities. Thank you again for your support.
You might want to look on Home Dialysis Central’s Find a clinic database to see if there’s a clinic that offers staff-assisted home dialysis in your area or in an area where you might want to live. The database lists 74 clinics that offer this service. If you don’t enter a state or city, you’ll get the whole list.
