My spouse and I are training for HHD with NXstage system one. I want to prepare our home for this and I have a couple of questions:
I wonder what are the dimensions of the table to use to support the machine? I will place the table on a dolly so I can move it around in case we want to change scenary in our home.
Another question is what are your plans for in case of electricity blackouts? We live in Los Angeles and during fires they shut off electrity
Thank you so much for helping me with this
In most cases, a patient’s NxStage machine sits on top of a device called Pureflow that treats water and makes dialysate. The Pureflow has wheels and can be moved, but it needs to be connected to water and to a drain. Patients use bagged solution when traveling and if home water doesn’t meet quality standards, they use bagged solution at home. If using bagged solution, you would need to have something for it to sit on. What I’ve heard is that it will fit on an end table.
So far as electrical outages, some people have a backup generator. Some people have a If you have a short term power outage, you could have an uninterruptible power supply to give you time to return your blood and do your treatment later or the next day. If you have a power outage expected to last longer, you could take your NxStage cycler and bagged solution to another location. You might look at this old thread and talk with your home training nurse or NxStage tech support.
Thank you so much for your attention and response.
So, we will use the “bags” system; therefore, will need something to put the machine on. As you said, an end table. I was hopeful that there was another choice from the company.
Regarding the generator, I had read the old comments and thought that I had it, but reading about generators, it seems that there is a need for 2 values: one is the surge potency and the other is the maintenance potency. I could not find this anywhere. The nurse that trains us said that they do not recommend anything and if that happens to us in the middle of HD, then we should stop and return the blood manually! I was hoping that I could use a generator though
Thank you so much for replying to me. I truly appreciated it
If you are on Facebook, you might want to join the Home Dialysis Central FB group. There are around 8,000 members, including a number who do home HD with NxStsge. They share tips and support. This is a closed member-only group and you will need to answer a handful of questions to be admitted. You could get answers to your questions there.
