Training

Is there anything particular in your training that you considered very essential or can just about any dialysis nurse be taught to train patients for home hemo?

I consider myself very fortunate to have had a very experienced home training nurse who had empathy for my situation as well as incredible skills with needling and an extensive knowledge of dialysis machines. I had his undivided attention when I needed it and there seemed to be no question he couldn’t answer. I guess with a machine like Fresenius where there are so many processes needed to this may be more of an issue than with the Nxstage etc. Having a very competent nurse when dealing with a new fistule sure helps you relax too.
We also have a extremely competent technician who has a huge job travelling the countryside to service the machines so we never have to miss a dialysis session if an issue arises.
