Will PD work for a large person with PKD?

I am 6ft 4in tall and weigh 280lbs. I have PKD and my kidneys are gt 25cm long each. In what I have read so far PD works best for smaller people and, with enlarged kidneys, would there sufficient room for the fluid needed for adequate dialysis.

I don’t know why not - I’m a fairly large person and I have done PD for over a year with no problem.

People with PDK can and do choose peritoneal dialysis. They may have a higher risk of hernia and leaks. Therefore, if you want to do PD, you might ask your doctor if the cycler (CCPD) would be a better choice than CAPD. Also if your doctor is concerned about whether a catheter would work in your abdomen due to your size, ask your doctor about whether the presternal catheter might be an option. It’s supposed to work well for larger people. You can show him/her this information:
