Height of amia machine

Drain is often less that the 2000ml fill Will changing the height of my amia machine help?

Hello @Iris :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:
Yes; increasing the height of your amia machine can help enhance draining if you notice it is less than 2000ml. The machine uses gravity to aid in draining, so placing the drain bag lower than your abdomen can improve flow. Try this and then let me know about the result

Hi there,
Thanks for the reply. I was looking for a little more direction. How high can the machine be above the abdomen? And when used the 15L drain bag is of course on the floor, however, we are often using the 12’ extension set to the toilet a room away.
Let me know your thoughts.

Have you talked with the nurse about the low drain to get him/her to help with troubleshooting? Some common reasons for low drain besides the height of the machine relative to the bed are that the catheter has moved from near the rectum where it should be so it can remove as much fluid as possible and/or being constipated as full intestines can adversely affect how well PD fluid drains.
